Press Toward the Goal

“…forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 3:13b-14
As great athletes of Olympic fame
We have a race to run;
It is a race in Jesus’ name,
And with His standards won.

We must leave off impeding weights,
Old ways with their allure;
Keep eyes fixed firmly on the heights,
Our ways, our steps secure.

God has a crown, a lofty prize
For all who heed His call;
Nothing else should claim our eyes,
His goal our all-in-all.

A little while and farther along
The prize will be in hand;
We’ll sing the victor’s mighty song,
And with the Victor stand.

Aleluia! Praise to the Lamb!
All the effort to gain the goal
With loving adoration laid down
From every grateful soul.
