Waiting for the Lord

“I wait for the Lord; my soul doth wait, and in His word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.” –Psalm 130:5-6
I do not have notations by the above verses. But they are underlined in my Bible. I must have noted the verses and prayed them when I was seeking a serious answer for some impending decision. The memory does not quite surface. Yet this one thing I know: Then, whenever it was in my life, and again this morning, I wait—and yes, with patience, for I have learned the best way to exercise patience is in waiting for the Lord’s timing and His will to be revealed.

I think we all enjoy the morning, the realization that we have another day of grace to walk with the Lord, to seek Him, to draw from His rich store of wisdom. I was reminded that this verse may have referred to those who had long watches through the night—maybe at a military watch, or guarding the town gate, or even watching beside the bed of a beloved sick one. Whatever the night watch, the watcher would have become tired, and with the first radiant rays of the morning sun, there would have been a relief watch, someone else coming to take the strategic station of guarding, of watching. Morning brings relief; but it also brings renewed hope. Every morning, every day: “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24).

Today I’m waiting upon the Lord and watching for another precious event in our family. My granddaughter, Elizabeth Berenguer Megale, is being admitted to the hospital today in Orlando, Florida for her little baby boy, Jake Carlos Megale, to be born. He is past due, and so labor will be induced. I pray that all goes safely and well for mother and baby. Grandparents Cynthia and Carlos traveled down after work yesterday to be there to welcome the new arrival and to care for two-year-old (going on 4) older sister, Cydni, who is very excited about her baby brother. May all go well with this new child. This great grandmother dedicates him to the Lord to make a difference in the world. “I wait for the Lord…more than night watchmen wait for the dawn.” This story, of course, will be continued. To God be praise and glory forever—not only in the morning watches, but throughout each day! Selah!
